Arrived!

I made it to Kenya on Wednesday night, had no trouble getting through the airport and someone was waiting for me as soon as I left the arrivals area, just as promised.  I was brought to my orientation accomidation in Nairobi, where "mama africa" was very kind and helped settle me in.  My roommate for the moment is Canadian as well, although from the other coast - its so nice to have someone to share all the experiences with.  And we've made plans to go on Safari and to the coast on our weekends!

Today was our last day of orientation, we went to the Nairobi National Park and the animal shelter - and yes, I most certainly did get to pet a grown cheetah!  They were sitting munching on some bones while we came in, and I just hoped and hoped that they wouldn't get bored and look for something bigger!  But they purred, just like I hoped they would... and it was a pretty amazing experience.  I also got to hold a baby cheetah, which was pretty outstanding, and I had a baby monkey eat out of my hand while it sat on my head!  My camera died before any of this (not having much luck with camera's this trip!) but the other girls got lots of pics.

Now I'm off to my project, I don't start working till monday so I will have the weekend to get orientated and settle in.  Hope all is well... I'll keep you updated and post some pictures when I get the chance!

Love, Jessie

  3. YAY! cheerful cheetahs and multitasking monkeys, what more can you ask for? Sounds freakin incredible girl. I so look forward to those pics. I'm assuming you had some pretty huge grins on your face that day!

We did a little dress shopping today with miss bride to be and man that girl can wear the hell out of a wedding dress! Stu-uu-uu-uunning. We missed you tho! We even took a trip down memory lane and had lunch at our old Yates Moxies. Like a three-legged dog we were without our Jess :( Di was there too, so that was tons of fun and hilarity. But we're still looking for the perfect dress, so maybe there will be more shopping days to come.

Looking forward to hearing more about your fantastical adventures. Love and hugs.

  5. You've got your blog up and running, it's great! You will have to show we how, it's a great way to communicate. So glad to hear you have made it safe and sound. Sounds like you have met some great people already, it's amazing how many experiences have happened for you already! So very glad the cheetah wasn't hungry for some nice fresh white meat, and just wanted some petting! Hope all goes well with the settling in at the Childrens Home. How's the food? Looking forward to hearing about more experiences, may they all be good ones.
We're all just fine here, the sun keeps shining, enjoying it while it lasts! Get to see the grandbabies on Wed, I'll give them a big hug from you.
Love you lots, here's a BIG HUG from Mom and Dad
